1987 MERCEDES 560 SEC

Beautiful vehicle that came for few jobs to get it ready for full time use. Job list was to replace drivers seat belt butler, service engine, check car for MOT, fresh up paintwork, new tires, refurbish wheels, fit new sound deadening foam under bonnet and rust proof inside profiles. Inspection showed that front suspension ball joint rubber gaiters is perished and fallen in to pieces, front calipers rubber boots is not preventing dirt ingress in to piston and corrosion is causing brakes to be stiff. Bad rust spots was find in boot under rear glass scuttle, and battery tray, all other places that usually getting attacked by corrosion is intact and good quantities of ACF50 and wax was sprayed in with long spraying tube. Chrome work has been stripped of bumpers and corrosion cleaned up and painted to protect from further deterioration. Bumpers repaired and sprayed. Headlamp bottom trims damaged by stones been paint stripped and rust spiders sandblasted, resprayed with good coat of wash primer to protect it from rust. Seat belt butler been hardest bit to replace, full inner quarter trim needed to be removed and refitted, after new unit fitted and set up. Brakes check up should be easy task, but some bolts instead undo as should snapped making an hour job 3h battle with dangerous brothers involved (oxy & acetylene). Blasting wheels was not bad but corrosion in AL casting needed repair so TIG welder got involved. Rest of chrome trim been cleaned to best possible condition and waxed. For MOT ball joints in front suspension been replaced, handbrake cleaned and adjusted and CO emissions adjusted to legal levels. K-jet mechanical injection cooperated well in adjustment task so car got green PASS!

Rust spots been scrubbed to maximum possible degree and treated with epoxy rust inhibitor/sealer and coated with paint and sprayed with generous dose of ACF50 same happened to every grommet covered inspection hole. While refitting wheels we noticed that wheel bolts got AL cap faces so four stage polish process was used to get them to mirror finish with superb result.
